Log-rank tests of homogeneity were conducted to determine whether differences information among study groups were statistically significant. In the information third phase of the analysis, the potential association between a participant's age at first sex and sibling category was examined by using bivariate and multivariate Cox regressions with backward selection. Variables significant at p≤.10 were included in the multivariate analyses, but only those significant at p≤.05 entered the final models. The conceptual framework used in this analysis draws on social learning theory.16 Although information a person's age at first sex is affected in part by his or her personal characteristics, social learning theory would emphasize the impact of role models—significant others whom the young person looks up to—and their characteristics, attitudes and behaviors.
